Oct. 10, 1954 - Harricane wrecks Haiti coastal town - Many dead. Homeless await food issue: Many people lost their lives when a hurricane with 115m.p.h. winds struck the Haiti coastal town of Jeremie (70, 000 population) recently. Houses were swept into the sea - wreckage and rubble blocked the streets and the waterfront for its whole length was a shambles of smashed boats ans debris.. Photo shows a patient queue of homeless hungry people waiting for the distribution of food stores etc landed by H.M.S. Vidal - which went to the assistance of the Hurricane victims
