Oct. 10, 1956 - Deep freeze saves wife in coma, Mrs. Moore she was sleeping for 168 days; An official statement from the Newcastle General Hospital last night - declared that the life of Mrs. Ellen Moore (22) - the mother to be who was in a coma for 168 days was probably saved by Deep Freeze. Last May Mrs. Moore was hit on the head by a falling tree and doctors were unable to awaken her and she was found to have a very severe injury of her brain. By means of cooling anaesthia (lowering of the temperature of the body) she was put into a virtual state of hibernation, for seven days during which time her temperature was taken as low as 30 deg. c. This method is claimed to have carried her over the most dangerous stage of her illness and probably saved her life. Mrs. Moore is now considerably improved her baby is expected to be born in December and as far as the authorities can ascertain the pregnancy is progressing normally. Photo Shows Mrs. Ellen Moore with her son Paul. This picture was taken shortly before the accident which put her into a coma for 168 days
