Jul. 07, 1956 - Many London Homes Hit By Lightning And Streets Flooded In Worst Thunderstorm This Year. The worst thunderstorm this year raged for hours over London and the Home Counties today. It left a trial of havoc across Southern England. Many homes were hit by lightning, and there were widespread floods. Rail, road and telephone services in the London area were disrupted, and road traffic was delayed.
