Oct. 10, 1958 - British Viscount airliner collides with Italian jet fighter and thirty people were killed: A British European airways Viscount airliner from London Airport and an Italian jet fighter collided today four and a half miles above the Italian coast. The airliner exploded and all 30 people aboard, 25 passengers and a crew of five, were killed. The crash happened in bad visibility over Nettuno, a small fishing village 30 miles south of Rome. One of the dead is Miss Jane Buckingham, a London model, who is believed to have been flying to Naples to see Prince Shiv, whose unofficial engagement to Miss Eva Bartok, the film actress, was announced this week. The pilot of the Italian jet fighter, Captain Giovanni Savorelli, baled out as his aircraft dived to the ground in flames.
