Accidents - Disasters - Fires - Floods - Tragedies

Jan. 01, 1958 - Hundreds Perish In The Ceylon Floods. Aerial View of Inundated Town. It is feared that the death role may reach 1, 000 - in the recent floods which devastated vast areas of Ceylon. Supplies to relieve the stricken people have been sent by Britain - America - Israel - Malaya - Singapore etc. The flood waters engulfed nearly half of the island - for some time the only form of communications was by radio - between many sections. More than 400, 000 were rendered homeless. Keystone Photo Shows:- Aerial view of an inundated town Batticaloa in the Eastern Coastal area of Ceylon
