Apr. 18 Lifeboat Saves 24 As Crash Ship Blazes. Rescue ships picked up survivors as a passenger carrying cargo vessel blazed in the Channel. The 5, 463 Norwegian motor vessel Taiwan and the Swedish tanker Stora (21, 902 ton) collided north of Brest. The Taiwan caught fire and flashed out S.O.S. calls that she was sinking. Ships in the vicinity went to her assistance and two lifeboats were launched. Later the Finnish steamer Regulus picked up 14 survivors.
