Mar. 27 Palestinian Commandos Attack EL AL Airliner Cairo: Two Palestinians opened fire on an Israeli EL AL Boeing 707 Airliner with Sub-Machine Guns and Hand Grenades at close range at 0950 GMT on Thursday December 26th as the plane was preparing to take off from Athens Airport for Paris and New York with 51 Passengers Aboard. The two men were said by the people's front for the liberation of Palestine (PFLP) to be Palestinian refugees belonging to one of the movement's commando units. An EL AL Spokesman later said of the plan's turbine was seriously damaged and the fuselage had been riddled with bullets. The plane was so seriously damaged that it was beyond repair.
