1961 - Potholer rescued in fifteen hour drama, Struggle at Simon's Pot, Kingsdale, nr. Ingleton-Yorkshire. More than 100 rescuers toiled for fifteen hours yesterday to bring 21 year old potholer Graham Shaw to the surface. The drama went on all night for Shaw was struck by a falling rock when a ladder gave way, and he lay at the bottom of the pothole with a broken leg and head injuries - and in need of a blood transfusion. After his rescue he was given be taken to hospital - where his condition is said to be satisfactory. Owning to the angles and narrowness of the pothole - this rescue proved to be one of the most difficult of all time.
