Jan. 01, 1961 - Crowds Wait At Beachy Head For Big Crash After 50, 000 Tons Of Chalk Fall Into Sea: Police kept watch at Beachy Head today as the cracked cliffs threatened to Crash 45-foot into the sea. Crowds of people stood by where great cracks have been discovered after 50, 000 tons of chalk, loosened by rainfall crashed into the see last night. Officials estimate that when this fall takes place it will away at last 200, 000 tones of cliff.
