May 05, 1964 - School train crashes three die; A happy schoolchildren's day out turned to disaster today when their special train carrying them on an excusion to York, crashed at Cheadle Hulme station in Cheshire. Out of the 234 children and staff travelling on the train, early reports state that the children are known to have died, and at least 20 are injured. The bridge which is undergoing rebuilding operations, appeared to give way as the train passed over, but fortunately the coaches did not topple into the street below
