Feb. 02, 1964 - Death Crash at the Bank. Yesterday, a heavily laden lorry ran out of control when it's air brakes failed on the steep Highgate Hill in North London. When the lorry reached the busy Archway road junction, the driver tried to swing the vehicle into a side road, but hit a car, and ploughed through the wall of a bank on the corner, killing two women passers-by, and trapping a third who was carried with the lorry and buried under the rubble. The lorry came to a standstill at the counter of the bank, but customers and staff were unhurt. Photo Shows The scene inside the wrecked bank
