Mar. 09, 1966 - The Nelson Pillar In Dublin Blown Up: The famous Nelson Pillar, in the centre of O'Connell Street, Dublin, was demolished from about half-way up. in an explosion which occurred at about 1:30 yesterday morning. Fortunately no one was hurt. The Nelson Pillar, which had an overall height of 134 feet - was erected in 1808-9 at a cost of &7, 000.
