Jun. 06, 1967 - Five dead in Pothole trap in the Yorkshire dales. Five potholers were found dead in a flooded tunnel deep inside one of Britain's most treacherous caverns. They were trapped there on Saturday night when rain sent torrents of water pouring into the cave system off Conistone Moor, 1, 400 feet above Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales. The five, all experts, were members of Leeds University Potholing club. They were carrying out a survey in Mossdale Cavern. Photo shows rescue workers digging a trench to divert the water from the pot during the rescue operations
