Jan. 01, 1965 - Runaway Borstal Boy trapped in Clift drama after threatening to jump 400-feet: A struggle on a cliff face ended in rescue this afternoon for 20 - year - old Londoner, Raymond Herriott, who had escaped from Dever Borstal. Hero of the drama was Mr. Albert Gould, the Governor of the Dover Borstal Institution. He was lowered down the chalk face at Lyddon Spout, an isolated spot on the towering cliff between Dover and Folkestone, where the youth was crouching on a ledge with a sheer drop of 400-feet to the rocks below. The Governor pleaded with the youth not to jump and a struggle broke out. Finally the youth was overpowered and was hauled exhausted to the cliff top by firemen using ropes.
