May 16, 1968 - Part of block of flats collapses: Three people died and three are missing when disaster struck a new skyscraper block of council flats in Butchers Road, Canning Town, in London's dockland today. The entire south-east corner of the 23 storey building collapsed. The cause has not yet been established, but reports said there had been an explosion. Photo shows a rather incongruous sign on the gates to the flats showing the collapsed part of the building in background
