May 31, 1970 - Peruvian earthquake of May 31st 1970 victims estimated at 50, 000: Aerial views of Yungay and Ranrechirca, two small towns completely covered by an avalanche of earth and rocks caused by the earthquake are the most revealing as to the size and destruction of this catsatrophy. The Most affected area was the valley of the Santa River, a very beautyful but narrow valley between the cordilleras. The Earthquake caused the land slide from the Huascaran mountain, the highest in peru. The Legend; Aqui eatuvo Yungay X Palza de Armas means here was the town of Yungay and the Main Square'. Most of the other photographs show to destruction in the small town of Huaraz
