Jun. 06, 1971 - Pilot Dies In Crash As He Avoids Pier: A single-seater Owl Midget Racer crashed into the Thames yesterday, killing the pilot, and narrowly missing about 100 people on Greenwich Pier. The pilot pulled his light aircraft out of a dive which would have sent it crashing into the crowded pier. Within minutes of the crash, firemen had smashed into the plane's cockpit with axes. but the pilot, Mr. Peter Terence Gent Eggett, of Garden Wood Road, East Grinst-ad, Sussex.
