Nov. 11, 1971 - Bridge On The Rhine Near Koblenz Collapses: Nearly 30 yds. of part of a new bridge currently under construction south of Koblenz to span the Rhine broke in the early afternoon and caused the death of at least 22 workers, most of them from Turkey and Yugoslavia. 12 people were severly injured and some are still missing. The cause of the accident is being investigated - all traffic on the busy river came to an instant halt. The construction work is not to be resumed until the official enquiry is completed
