Sep. 24, 1970 - Fire at Gas Depot. Families were evacuated from their homes early today as firemen fought a fire in a gas storage depot in church Road, Mitcham. Debris from exploding cylinders landed up to 300 yards away and the noise of the explosions were heard over a wide area.
