Oct. 10, 1970 - Pier Crashes Into The Sea At Clevedon: Nearly 200 feet of the 800ft long wooden pier at the seaside resort of Clevedon, near Bristol, crashed into the sea yesterday minutes after engineers had completed testing it for safety, No one was on the pier at the time of the crash. The pier, built 101 years age, was mainly used by anglers. It had been closed since October 2 for inspection and would have been opened again in two weeks, if te engineers had given the go-ahead.
