May 05, 1971 - The Eruption of Etna. The eruption of Mount Etna shows no sign of abating. One major river of lava continued to roll down the southeast side of Etna towards Sant'Alfio, where for days townspeople have paraded images and relice of their patron, Saint Alphius in the hop of halting the approaching lava, which overwhelemed the creek Cubania on the road from Zafferana and to Linguaglossa. The lava swept over farmhouses and vineyards as sobbing inhabitants fled their homes. Photo shows Night picture of the molten lava from Mount Etna on its relentless path
