Mar. 17, 1972 - 9 DIE IN M.I FOG PILE UP. Nine people died and 50 were injured yesterday in the worst M.I pile up in the fog. At least 130 vehicles from Minis to giant lorries crashed into each other at up to 70 mph. The multiple crash blocked both carriageways of the motorway at Ridgmont, Beds. Several drives were burned to death as they tried to escape from their blazing vehicles.
