Mar. 17, 1972 - 9 Die In M.I. Fog Pile Up.: Nine people died ang 50 were injured yesterday in the worst M.I. pile up in the fog. At least 130 vehicles from Minis to giant lorries crashed into each other at up to 70 mph. The multiple crash blocked both carriageways of the motorway at Ridgmont, Beds. Several drivers were burned to death as they tried to escape from their blazing vehicles. Photo shows On the N.I. yesterday - Mrs. Jessie Fox. of Sheffield, trapped by her foot. gives rescuers instructions from the wreckage of her car. A man sitting beside her had just died from his injuries in the multiple collisions north of lutes involving more than 100 vehicles, which drove into dense fog out of the early morning sun
