Mar. 03, 1971 - Man Killed in Motorway Bridge Collapse.: A workman killed and 15 were hurt when a bridge spanning an uncompleted section of the A20 (M) motorway between Coldharbour and Wrotham Heath, Kent, collapsed yesterday. The bridge. on the Leybourne interchange, was one of 16 being buimt in a £4, 400, 000 contract for 6 1/2 miles of dual carriageway. about 20 men were on the bridge when the 116ft centre span began to sway. Within seconds the metal, concrete and hard core collapsed 40 feet on to the motorway beneath, taking the men with it. Photo shows a bridge reduced to a tangled mass of metal, concrete and hardcore after it had collapsed yesterday at Laybourne, near Maidstone, where it was being built to carry traffic over a section of the Maidstone by -pass
