Mar. 03, 1971 - Man killed in Motorway Bridge collapse : A workman was killed and 15 were hurt when a bridge spanning an uncompleted section of the A20 (m) motorway between coldharbour and wroth-am heath, Kent, collapsed yesterday. The bridge, on the Leybourne interchange, was one of 16 being built in a, 400, 000 contract for 6 1/2 miles of dual carriageway. About 20 men were on the bridge when the 116 ft center span began to sway. Withing seconds the metal, concretes and hard core collapsed 40 feet on the motorway beneath, taking the men with it. photo shows A bridge reduced to tangled mess of metal, concrete and hardcore after it had collapsed yesterday at Leybourne, near Maid-stone, where it was being built to carry traffic over a section of the Mid-stone by - pass
