Sep. 09, 1973 - Explosive catastrophe in Baden-Baden, resort town On Sept. 18, 1973 shortly after 7 a.m. an enormous shock wave induced by the ignition of fluid ammonia, destroyed the renowned resort town's slaughter-house, killing at least eleven persons, injuring the same number of people seriously. material damages amount to approx. 3 million DM. Salvage teams of the German Red Cross, as well as local police forces and French military units, stationed in the neighbourhood, were occupied until late that afternoon to recover the victims. The news of the explosion spreaded quickly in the city, attracting a good many sight-seers, that were hindering the salvage teams, so that police forces finally had to clear the way. The tragic disaster was induced in a freezing house at the site of the slaughter-house ground in the city;s quarter of Baden-Oos.
