Aug. 08, 1972 - Sir Francis Chichester Dies Sir Francis Chichester, one of the world's greatest air and sea adventurers, died at the age of 70 in the Royal Naval Hospital at Plymouth. Lady Chichester and their son Giles were at this bedside when he died. Sir Francis has been ill since he dropped put of the Transatlantic yacht race in July.
