Oct. 10, 1973 - Part of Brighton Pier Falls Into Sea After Being Hit By Barge. Part of the famous Brighton Pier crashed into the sea yesterday after being hit by a barge that had broken loose from its moorings. The barge, which was being used by workmen helping to demolish the pier's landing stage, was blown against the pier by gale-force winds. No one was hurt.
