Jun. 06, 1974 - 34 Die and many injured in blast at Chemical Plant Flixborough, near Scunthorpe: Atleast 34 people were killed last night after a massive explosion ripped through the Nypro Chemical plantat Flixborough, near Sounthorpe, Lincolnshire. The explosion was heard 30 miles away. Some of the injured were from the village of Flixborough which took the full force of the blast and late last night the village was evacuated as a huge cloud of poison gas poured from the factory.
