May 28, 1975 - 31 Women die in day trip Coach outing crash: A coach carrying 45 women on an outing from Teeside crashed through a bridge parapet in the Yorkshire Dales yesterday and landed upside down in a field, killing the driver and 31 women. The other 14 women were all injured some of then seriously. The coach ran down a one-in-six hill and demolished about 30-feet of the parapet of Dibble's Bridge, known locally as Devil's Bridge. As its nearside smashed the parapet the coach began to heel over and plunged about 16-feet into a field below the driver, who died in the wreckage, is reported to have told the rescuers that his brakes failed.
