Oct. 10, 1979 - 14 Die in jet crash at Athens airport: Fourteen passengers died after the Peking bound Swiss air DC-8 skidded at the end of the runway as it came into land at Athens Airport and burst into flames, 30 other passengers were injured and taken to hospital. The plane from Zurich and Geneva was carrying 142 passengers and 12 crew. Photo shows the scene after the crash of the Swiss Air DC-8 at Athens airport in which 14 of the passengers died
