Dec. 12, 1978 - Four die in Brigthon train crash: Four people died when two trains crashed on the London to Brighton line late last night. Seven people were seriously injured. The 9.40 Victoria to Littlehampton train ploughed into the rear of a 9.50 Victoria to Brighton train, halted at signals because of a report of a women on the rail line at Brighton Station. The crash occured in a 40ft cutting at Sweet Hill Bridge, 3 miles from Brighton. One coach was hurled 30 feet into the air and crashed on to another carriage. Three other coaches were squashed almost flat under the bridge. Photo shows the crushed carriages at the mouth of the tunnel at Sweet Hill Bridge today
