Feb. 02, 1964 - These Ladies Are For Burning: In a shed in the London Docks is a massive collection of over 350, 000 obscene books which have been confiscated by the British Customs and have been packed to await their turn to go into the incinerator. Many of the books have been waiting for several years. Most of them come from New York, and the Customs men say that they are easy to spot, in spite of the fact that they are sometimes hidden among Bibles, or are marked as Educational Books. The fact that so many of the consignments - which cost about1, 000 each to send - are confiscated, is causing the flow of them to stop because it is proving uneconomic for the traders.
