Feb. 02, 1963 - Irak's Government Overthrown - Pres. Kassim Reported Assassinated. A rebel radio claiming to broadcast from Baghdad said today that the Iraqi Government had been overthrown and President Kassim assassinated. It is also claimed that the rebellion is backed by the Army and the Air Force. Eighteen of President Kassim's officers were said to be under arrest. The rebels call themselves the National Council of the Revolutionary Commander. They are also said to be supporters of President Nasser of Egypt.
