Oct. 10, 1953 - Africa's women march to the Polls: Acara, capital of the Golad Coast with an estimated population of 150, 000. recently elected a new Municipal Council. Women were predominent at the 23 polling booths from which the returns showed the city was to be governed by an all-African council for the next three years. It was another example of how the Gold Coast, with the cooperation of the British Government, is moving toward self-government in a democratic manner.
