Jul. 07, 1958 - Governor's Goodbye: Twining of Tanganyika has gone home - with the farewells of thousands of men, women and children of all races who gathered in the early morning to remind him for the rest of his life of the affection he had won during his nine years as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the British Trust Territory. Guns boomed and there were some 400 official guests to say goodbye, among them chiefs who had travelled hundreds of miles, but perhaps the best tribute of all came from the public enclosure when the Governor and Lady Twining, departing from the planned programme, walked slowly along shaking as many of the outstretched hands as possible.
