Africa - Egypt
Dec. 12 In a typically African ceremony, Tanzanian elders beat a drum for Samora Machel, the charismatic leader of Frelimo, who was departing from the country which had provided a base for the guerrilla movement for over a decade, to return to his homeland of which he will be first President. In African lore, drums are symbols of peace as well as of war, and their sound augurs good luck for Machel in his labourts to come as Head of an independent State as well as paying homage to his bravery and skill as a warrior
