Africa - Egypt

Dec. 12 At his farewell at Dar es Salaam Airport, Sahora Machel shakes hands warmly with a senior Chinese Embassy official. The Chinese are good friends of the Tanzanians, and have also provided considerable material and moral support to the anti colonial war waged by Machel and Frelimo. Will Chinese influence on independent Mozambique be important? Machel is a Marxist himself, and the post independence policies of his country, insofar as they have been revealed, will be strongly Socialist in pattern. Nevertheless, Machel himself has emphasized that Frelimo is essentially Mozambiquan in orientation and personality. Like Tanzania, Mozambique is likely to produce its own individual brand of socialism, depending on no outside source for ideological models
