Apr. 18 Kenyan children protest against poaching: Several hundred Kenyan children from all over the country demonstrated at the weekend in support of Government measures to end poaching and to eliminate criminal middlemen in the illegal traffic in trophies, both of which are currently posing a threat to Kenya's wildlife. They were all members of the Kenyan Wildlife Clubs, and they congregated outside the Nairobi Museum where they were addressed by their National Chairman, Mr Richard Leakey. Mr Leakey, son of them late Louis S.B. Leakey, is also Director of the National Museums of Kenya. Later, the children, bearing home-made banners and placards with such slogans as Severer sentences for wildlife destroyers, Please.let the animals live, Poaching is a hindrance to our national development and Save our Wildlife, marched several miles to the office of the Minister for Tourism and Wildlife, where they presented a petition bearing over 7, 500 signatures. The Ministers welcomes the children, and assured them that their petition would be handed to the President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. He told them that the Government was happy that it had their support, and that they would continue their efforts against poaching.
