Mar. 28, 1960 - Original Picture. Massacre Of Africans At Sharpeville: More than fifty natives lost their lives when police opened fire - during the native campaign against the rule which forces them to carry passes - at Sharpeville about thirty miles from Johannesburg. Jet aircraft which screamed down on the natives - in an attempt to frighten them - only made them more angry. The shooting of the Africans has created strong protests from all parts of the world. Photo shows S.A.A.F. Aircraft fly overhead in an attempt to frighten the natives - but this only made them all the more angry
