Oct. 10, 1963 - Emperor Haile Selassie Addresses Eighteenth Session of UN General Assembly. United Nations, New York, 4 October 1963. His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, the Emperor of Ethiopia paid an official visit to the United Nations Headquarters today. He met with Secretary General U Thant and addressed the plenary meeting of the Eighteenth Session of the UN General Assembly. During the course of his visit, he presented an ivory replica of the obelisk at Axum (Ehtiopia) as a gift to UN Headquarters, and deposited with the Secretary General the charter of the Organization of African Unity signed by the Heads of African States and Governments in Addis Ababa in May, 1963.
