Nov. 11, 1962 - Paul Ngei - The Kamba leader - quits Kanu.: Paul Ngei - the Kamba leader- announced during the week - end announced the formation of a new political party for the Kamba people. Minutes after revealing his decision at Mackakos a crowd of 7, 000 supporters ripped up their Kanu party cards and recipts. These supporters went wild with delight- and riot troops wore gas masks- in case they had to use teargas - but luckily order was restored - and it was not necessary. Photo shows riot police wore gas mask in case they had to use tear gas against the cheering natives - after Paul Ngei had announced his decision at Machakos, Kenya
