May 05, 1967 - President Nasser To Close The Gulf Of Aqaba: President Nasser, is to close the Tiran Strait, on the Gulf of Aqaba, to Israel Shipping. The Gulf is Israel's only access to the Red Sea. He announced early today that the next Israeli ships passing through the Strait to Israel's key port of Eilat would be stopped by Egyptian forces who have into Sharm el Sheikh, overlooking the Strait.
