Jan. 01, 1968 - Discovery of temple of Ramses II may lead to the unearthing of the city of Thebes: The Egyptian Archaeological Mission has discovered an ancient temple of Ramses II near Ramses Obelisque, in the course of operation for the discovery of the ancient city of Thebes, Pharaonic capital of Egypt 4, 000 years ago. Archaeologists expect that this discovery would lead to the unearthing of an important archaeological discovery of the ancient city which would contribute to unveiling new information on Pharaonic history of Egypt and the secrets of its ancient civilization. The operations for the discovery of the ancient city began five years ago on a plateau included three layers representing the Greece - Roman, Byazantine and Islamic ages. Archaeologists are at present continuing the digging under this plateau and around the Temple of Ramses II with the hop of discovering this Pharaonic Capital.
