Jun. 06, 1968 - First IBO civilian administrator of the Fast central state of Nigeria strongly denies allegation of mass elimination of IBOS preferred against the Federal Military government of Nigeria; Mr. Anthony Ckpabi Asika, 31, an IBO of Onistshe origin, is the first Ibo civilian to be appointed Civil Administratio for the East Central State in the new Nigerian set up. At a Press Conference at Nigerial House yesterday Mr. Asika strongly denied the widespread allegations which implied that the Federal government of Nigeria has set to wipe out the entire Ibos of East Central State, of which he is the Administrator - Head of the Government. He emphasized that his Administrative staff comprises mainly the Ibos, with the full complement of Ibo police officers, and added that, in fact, contrary to what is generally known outside, many Ibos still live and work in Lagos, in the Kid-West, in the West and small number in the Northern States. He denounced the lying propaganda of Ojukwa and his clique who misrepresent facts about the crisis in Nigeria and declared How can any reasonable person without bias ever believe that former University lecturer like myself who is also an Ibo, and other Ibos in my staff, will all fold our arms and watch the Federal Military Government carry out the so-called exercise of wiping out my own people. He admitted that civilians from both sides in the conflict were killed in the war, but explained that this was natural and characteristic of all wars, and should not leave the Federal Government to carry the blame for everything.
