Sep. 09, 1966 - SOUTH AFRICAN PRIME MINISTER DIES AFTER BEING STABBED BY A WHITE MAN: Dr. Verwoerd, the South African Premier, was stabbed several times in the neck by a white man dressed in the uniform of a Parliamentary messenger in the House of Parliament in Capetown this afternoon. The attack took place in the House of Assembly. Later reports say that Dr. Verwoerd has since died. Six years ago he narrowly escaped assassination when an Englis-born white farmer fired two revolver bullets into his head at close range, but her recovered. Photo shows Dr. Verwoerd and his wife Betsy pictured when he was in London for the Commonwealth Prime Ministers conferences in 1961
