Nov. 11, 1970 - Black Africa's first Earth satellite communications station was opened today November 12 1970 by President Kenyatta of Kenya who christened it Longonot satellite station after a nearby dormant volcano. Here in Kenyas rift valley stoneage and spaceage meet - and traditional Masai dancers celebrate with their timeless dances against the stark silhouette of the space station bowl which has put the three East African countries into instant touch with the rest of the world.
