Oct. 10, 1968 - Artillery Duel Along Suez Canal: Heavy firing took place on Saturday along a 40-mile stretch of the Suez Canal. The exchanges lasted an hour before a cease-fire was arranged by the United Nations Supervisory team. The lsraeli military Spokesman said that the Egyptians first opened fire with small arms at E1 Qantara, followed by artillery. Armies are dug in along both sides of the canal.
