Feb. 02, 1974 - Council for Namibia welcomes new commissioner: Members of the Unites Nations Council for Namibia, at a meeting this morning, welcomed the new United Nations Commissioner for Namibia, Sean McBride. Mr. McBride, whose appointment as Commissioner was approved by the General Assembly on 18 December 1973, is a former Minister for External Affairs of Ireland, and former Secretary-General of the International Commission of Jurists. He was also Chairman of Amnosty International and the International Peace Beurue, Geneva. The United Nations Council for Namibia was established by the General Assembly under its resolution 2145 (XXI) of 27 October 1966 and 2248 (S-V_ of 19 May 1967.
