Jul. 07, 1976 - Coup against President Numeiri fails in Sudan: President Numeiri of Sudan survived the second serious military revolt against his regime earlier this month. Forces loyal to the President put down the rebellion after some heavy fighting. One of the leaders of the obortive coup, Brigadier Muhammad Nur Saad, has been arrested and now awaits a court martial.
